2015 – a great year in the making

2015 got off to a great start, seeing in the New Year with family in Scotland and having my first Bahrain Brunch of the year at the Sofitel.

I have to say this was an inspired choice! I had heard lots of people wax lyrical about the food at the Sofitel but I really wasn’t prepared for just how good it was going to be (cue more overuse of superlatives!).

Besides the food, which I’ll get back to in a bit, the Sofitel itself is stunning – a huge main dining area with two smaller areas at each end if the main area. The grounds are stunning, there is a large pool, a tapas bar and a private beach plus a choice of loungers and hammocks for lazing away your day if that’s what you choose to do.

Of course, we were there for the food and drink experience. As I mentioned, the food was amazing. The main area had a fantastic array of seafood, sushi, noodles, rice dishes, curried meat and veg, roast beef with all the trimmings, poached salmon… probably more that I’ve forgotten! Then there was an Asian section where you chose your own combination of meet, fish, veggies, herbs, spices, rice or noodles then took then to the cooking station to be cooked in the sauce of your choice. There was an Italian section with fresh pasta, fresh bread, pizza,    IMG_20150116_124231

vegetables, fruit, juices, cheese and biscuits. And not forgetting dessert… I’m not a huge fan of dessert but these were delicious! Bite sized (well, slightly more than one bite!) portions of almost every cake you could think of, plus ice cream and a chocolate fountain.  I don’t think there would be many people who would have struggled to eat well here.

This is definitely a brunch I will come back to, I think I enjoyed it even more than Dubai – so much for my previous statement that no brunch in Bahrain could touch the Atlantis brunch…!

Now I am in the process of planning my trips for the rest of the year – I do like to have a plan!! At the moment there are plans to travel more in the Middle East, Scandinavia (in the summer) and Australia (November) – and of course I will make two trips home; one in April and one in September.

I’m also thinking about studying, I have some ideas but will keep it under wraps for now until I’ve made a decision…

Oh and I’ll go to work too!!

So far 2015 is shaping up to be a fantastic year. If it’s anywhere near as good as last year I will be more than happy.

My wish for everyone reading this is that you too have a happy, year full of adventures, experiences and positivity. Enjoy it! IMG_20150116_124410IMG_20150116_124242
