Ageless… what does it mean to you?

If you ever think about aging and being ‘ageless’ what is the first thing you think of?  If you’re female, and anything like me, your first thoughts would be about wrinkles, keeping in shape, buying the latest ‘miracle’ cream to make you look younger – in fact almost anything to hold back the years!

But what about what’s happening on the inside?  Up until recently that’s not something I gave a lot of thought to.  And let’s face it, in your 20s and 30s it’s not really something you do think about – you can have nights out, burn the candle at both ends and you bounce back without too much trouble.  ‘Old’ is forever away anyway so why would you even worry about it…

And then all of a sudden you are 40 (or more) and you’re noticing friends and family starting to look a little older, they’re starting to take various medications and you start to wonder if this is what’s in store for you too.  My personal bug bear is weight gain.  I’ve had a lifelong battle with my weight and a very sweet tooth (or sugar addiction – let’s call it what it is) but since I hit 40 I’ve found it harder and harder to loose weight and keep in shape, right now I’d be happy to drop a dress size or 2.  Then I started to become aware of people saying to me ‘ah but you’re in your 40’s, it is harder’ or, even worse ‘you’re over 40 now, don’t worry about it’.   Uhm…. what??!

So because I’m over 40 I should just give up caring about myself and how I look.  No, not the road I want to go down.

So here I am, 40 plus, and looking at ways to future-proof my life and feel ageless.  I must admit my focus now is more what’s happening on the inside – I know that a healthy gut and a healthy brain are connected so I’m basing my diet (at least 80% of the time) on natural foods and natural, healthy fats.  I’m keeping my brain active by reading lots, learning new things, using coconut oil for cooking, and sometimes brushing my teeth with my non-dominant hand!  Even the simple things can make a difference!

I feel a lot less bloated which is a good start and a good indicator to keep on track, I’ve a way to go but if you recognize this struggle, or if you’ve got some great tips you can share, why not follow the Mindful Journey and get involved in future-proofing your life and enjoying ageless ageing?

And just out of curiosity – where are the guys?  What do you worry about when you think about ageing?  I’m pretty sure it’s not just a female worry?
